General Attahiru left the scene at a time when the scourge of the Boko Haram menace was just being tamed and every Nigerian believed in his leadership approach to end the insurgency. On that fateful day, Nigeria lost her Chief of Army Staff in a plane crash in Kaduna, along with ten other fine officers and men of the Nigerian Army. The profundity of the misery heaped first on the immediate families, friends and indeed, our country can be summed up in what the late Queen Elizabeth II of England aptly termed “annus horribilis” in 1992. ![]() ![]() Or I suppose “morning” would be more accurate, lol! This was incredibly compelling from the first page the kind of book that held my attention from the start and NEVER let go. Well, I hope no one expects me to do anything productive today, because this kept me up reading LATE into the night. ![]() ![]() Martinez does an excellent job with the nuances of this relationship, and that made From the Embers a very bingeable read. This couple’s journey to happily ever after is hard fought and so very different than most, and I soaked up the subtle changes in their interactions. So this grabbed my attention and held it the whole way through! It’s a heavy book that gets lighter as it goes on, and I loved the uplifting, heartfelt vibes towards the end. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC before this released, but that meant that I went in completely blind – the blurb was super vague, no one else had reviewed it yet, and I’d only read lighter books by Martinez in the past. I still think back on the book very fondly, and hope many new readers will love it soon! From the Embers is enjoying a sudden surge in popularity, and I’m very happy about that… because it was one of my Top 20 of 2021 picks! In case you missed my review at the time, I’m sharing it again now. ![]() ![]() ![]() Book Genre: Fantasy, Fiction, Media Tie In, Science Fiction, Star Wars.Full Book Name: Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire.Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire by Steve Perry – eBook Detailsīefore you start Complete Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire PDF EPUB by Steve Perry Download, you can read below technical ebook details: Suddenly Luke finds himself the potential prize of the two most evil entities in the galaxy–one who wants him alive…and one who wants him dead. Brief Summary of Book: Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire by Steve Perry ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() At the heart of the story is the mysterious substance known as Dust, interpreted as original sin by the Magisterium (the church authority which holds an enormous amount of power over society in Lyra’s world). As with all of the best books for children, it is the darker elements which really drive the plot and ensure that the books appeal to adults as much as they do to younger readers. My very brief summary above doesn’t really do justice to the vast complexity of the trilogy and its large cast of characters. In ‘The Subtle Knife’ and ‘The Amber Spyglass’, Lyra meets Will Parry and they travel between different universes including our own in pursuit of the meaning of Dust. The first book in the series ‘Northern Lights’ is set in a parallel universe similar to ours but different in many ways and introduces twelve-year-old Lyra Belacqua and her dæmon companion Pantalaimon who travel to the North Pole to rescue her friend Roger from the Gobblers who are carrying out experiments on children. This month, I’ve broken the habit of a (five-year blogging) lifetime and reread the ‘His Dark Materials’ trilogy by Philip Pullman ahead of the publication of ‘La Belle Sauvage’, the first volume of the Book of Dust trilogy later this year. ![]() ![]() ![]() The best test of leadership is the response during times of adversity. In response, Kranz interjects "With all due respect sir, I believe this is going to be our finest hour." "This could be the worst disaster NASA has ever experienced." "I know what the problems are Henry," one of them says. Kranz listens in as two NASA directors discuss the low survival chances for the crippled spacecraft. One of my favorite scenes in the movie comes at one of the most pivotal moments. In 2000, NASA Flight Director Gene Kranz penned an autobiography using the film's tagline: Failure Is Not An Option. These events were well-documented, of course, most famously in the 1995 Ron Howard film, Apollo 13. Within a matter of hours, a series of critical real-time decisions not only had to be made, but solutions needed to be developed. ![]() However, the mission was aborted 56 hours in, due to an onboard explosion in the service module. We still didn't find out about what Tate said was true an then again we had to wait till the ending of fallen fourth down for that ! This. Even in the previous book with the abuse and stuff how come Sam's mothers slap from the first book didn't trigger any memory of her mother killing her unborn children? I mean that was also violent as well as with the other stuff that went on with her mother. Review 1: I jus don't damn get it!! Those girls were so nice to her at the ending of the first book and now they hate her ? It jus seems to me that the author is writing in after thoughts into the storyline that aren't necessary. ![]() ![]() With his love for Isabelle forever engraved on his heart, Stephen volunteers to fight on the Western Front and enters the unimaginable dark world beneath the trenches of No. But, with the world on the brink of war, the relationship falters. So Gideon devised a test: he prepared a generous food gift, as if for a sacrifice, and laid it on a rock. The angel gave Gideon a commission that Gideon hesitated to accept. The angel of the Lord sat down under an oak tree next to where Gideon was working. Using a wooden instrument called a flail, Gideon laboriously pounded the grain in his father’s wine press – a pit dug out of rocky ground. Out of fear of the Midianites, however, Gideon threshed his grain in secret. Usually Gideon would have used oxen to thresh wheat on the community threshing floor. Gideon was threshing wheat in a rocky hollow usually used for crushing grapes, trying to keep out of sight of the invaders. ![]() But since God wanted to be recognized as the true deliverer, He chose an insignificant man as His instrument. When the Israelites finally turned to God, He gave them a conqueror. Politically and spiritually weak, the Israelites were no match for the invaders.
